The MTV VMAs have returned to recognize the artists who've made the best music videos of the year.

On Tuesday, September 12, MTV hosted its 38th annual Video Music Awards at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The biggest artists in the industry were in the building to find out whether or not they would walk away with the coveted Moon Person trophy. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with eight nods including Video of the Year. SZA came in second with five nominations followed by Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith with five each plus BLACKPINK, Diddy, and Shakira, who received four each.

Taylor Swift walked away with a whopping nine Moon Persons including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj won "Best Hip-Hop" and SZA took home "Best R&B." While Taylor made history with her victories, 35 other artists have made their own history just by being nominated for an award for the first time. These nominees include Metro Boomin, Rema, Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp and more.
