When Dominic Harrison started writing music as YUNGBLUD in 2017, he just wanted to move people. He wanted the project to be more than just raucous songs — he wanted it to connect people. Three years in, and it's safe to say the 23-year-old has definitely achieved his goal.
Harrison released his sophomore album Weird! earlier this month as a call for fans to "embrace the strange," but it was Spring of 2019 when he realized just how much of an impact he was having on the world. The English rocker recently sat down with Vevo to dissect his music videos, where he revealed that the iconic boat party in his "Hope For The Underrated Youth" wasn't meant to be part of the visuals.
“I just had this idea, like, let’s do something dangerous and unifying all at the same time," he recalled, noting he thought maybe 500 people would show up. To his surprise, it was more like two- or three-thousand. “This was probably the craziest night of my life, to this day," Harrison divulged. It's also "one of the proudest moments" of his career.
"This is what I want YUNGBLUD to be about," Harrison declared. "It’s about f**king culture. And it’s about [being] here together to get our voices heard. We could not be ignored that night. I’ll remember that moment for the rest of my life."
Elsewhere in the clip, Harrison breaks down his videos for “god save me, but don’t drown me out,” “Parents,” "mars," and “Weird!”
