Because we love ‘em all. Here’s your 90’s Video of the Day:

Metallica - Enter Sandman

Wayne Isham directed six total Metallica videos but delved right into the creepy crawlies of your mind with “Enter Sandman,” a perfect nightmare-fueled visual for the ultimate anti-lullaby. Technically this video got released a few weeks before the album came out so it alone may have helped sell a few copies. (Just a few).

The old man in the video is actor R.D. Armstrong, a veteran character actor and playwright who starred in shows like The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason,The Andy Griffith Show and The Dukes of Hazzard. But now, for the rest of your life, he is the evil Sandman who hides in your room, maybe under your bed, I don't know, did you check? One of the more memorable key effects used in the video to add to the chaos was a pretty affordable option; the strobe light. As you'll see in this making of video here it's a wonder they didn't get sick during filming.

“Enter Sandman” was written in just a few days after Metallica set out to write a more streamlined to-the-point metal album with producer Bob Rock. Originally, the lyrics James Hetfield brought for the song were about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or "crib death" and it was a bit much even for the band. (They notoriously stayed out of each other's business when it came to their respective roles in the band but this one was worth a talk). James took the suggestion pretty well and retooled the lyrics to fit the mood of the music.
